HARBOR FLEET MOTOR CO. and its subsidiaries are selling a new line of diesel engines and engines of a new type.
The products, which were launched last week, are part of a $1.9 billion project to modernize California’s fleet of freight motor trucks.
The new products will replace the older diesel engines used in freight trailers.
The new engines will also replace the old diesel trucks, which are a critical component of California’s economy.
In 2015, California’s freight trucks accounted for about half of all passenger traffic.
That figure is expected to grow to more than 90 percent by 2023.HARBOR has been a pioneer in the diesel engine market.
The company, which makes its own engines, was first to offer a diesel engine in 1993.
HARBORS diesel engines are produced at a plant in Fremont, and then shipped to trucking and shipping companies around the country.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles said the new products were developed in partnership with a U.S. manufacturing company, Cummins Inc. of Indianapolis.
The Cummins engines are used in the trucks in which HARBORY freight brokers license to sell their diesel products.
The trucking companies then use the Cummins diesel engines to operate their trucks.
